JUMPING OVER JUMA
Nicole Stewart
Every downtown girl includes Juma into her wardrobe the moment she hears about this refined label. GLOSS had a chance to speak with Jamil Juma about their latest collection.
GLOSS:
What styles, colours, and silhouettes did Juma use this season?
JJ: Our spring line has a very fresh vibe in terms of colour and silhouette. We have cobalt blue prints mixed with crystal greys, shiny mauves, and punches of yellow. We have a lot of tulip skirts and dresses that can be worn separately or layered with other items. We have a lot of organic cotton dresses and jackets as well as modal, bamboo, and enzyme washed cottons for a soft feel on the body.
GLOSS:
What is your favourite piece from your spring collection?
JJ: My favourite piece is the sport back tulip dress. I think it looks great with a tank underneath and a pair of nice flats … It’s very light and sexy for the spring. I also really like our floral-printed raglan dress.
GLOSS:
Have you had any "AHH!" moments designing this collection?
JJ: Everyday is “Ahh” these days! Designing and producing a collection is a crazy time. Everything has to be done by a certain time while being executed perfectly.
GLOSS:
Have any celebrities been spotted in Juma lately?
JJ: Celebs we know of that have worn our items lately include Mary Kitchen, host of Fashion Television, and Rachel McAdams from
The Notebook
.
GLOSS: What is the biggest fashion oh-no that you’ve seen people wearing lately?
JJ: I think people should move away from drab colours for spring. I like a cleaner, fresh look!
