Vancouver has always been known for a laid-back style that is both casual and chic. Lately, from Robson to South Granville, we’ve been seeing a lot more edge, more sophistication and a lot more of Scott Walhovd and Anthony Castro.
If you don’t know these names by now, file them away in your fashion archives under “My New Addiction”, because there is nothing casual about the way these two see fashion. Both are offspring of the New York fashion scene; Walhovd modeled for the likes of fashion photography gods Terry Richardson and Mario Testino while Castro has worked for prestigious brands such as Calvin Klein and Donna Karen. They’re bringing a taste of New York to the Vancouver streets with fashion that caters to the “I look good but I’m hardly trying” crowd.
Like a tasty beverage after work, the 212 collection has been much anticipated, and upon arrival, very refreshing. Offering clothing that is affordable, 212 never skimps on quality and keeps clothing circulating every two weeks. Their recent collection played host to good girls gone bad with naughty denims, dynamic coloured shoes, cute evening purses and sinfully short shorts. Fall is also going to be a mixed bag of fashionable flavour from delicious jewel tones, killer coloured denim, and comfortable Eskimo-infused styles and, every Vancouver girl’s new favourite find, fashionable raincoats. Other lines carried by 212 are the New York label Lidi, Interlude from Los Angeles, and Maria Bonita, a hot Brazilian line you can only get in Canada.
If you’re going shopping in Gastown, make a stop at our addiction, pay your respects to the newest kids on the Vancouver fashion block and watch Walhovd and Castro change the way we look at West Coast style.
