Monkey Business

When visiting Montreal to shop, finding that one unique piece that will make your friends ask “where’d you get that?” is usually a girl’s mission. Where will she find that special gem? Three Monkeys.
Located in the heart of downtown Montreal in the prestigious Cours Mont Royal, the Three Monkeys was created as a launch pad for local, up and coming designers.
“When it opened its doors three years ago, this shop ambitiously started as a store exclusively for independent Montreal designers and artists,” says Mike Casali, one of the three monekys. “Believing firmly in encouraging the local economy and the local community of artists, the Three Monkeys team have been proud to offer the widest selection of Valerie Dumaine, Travis Taddeo, and Lydia Lukidis, to name a few.”
Travis Taddeo, a designer who has been involved with Three Monkeys since its opening says that Canadian fashion could be riskier. “Fashion moves at an incredible rate, from couture to mass production, fashion reaches all. However, the readiness of Canadians to get a little risqué, to be more daring like our Euro friends, well, that happens at a pace that can afford to be sped up.”
Success has allowed the store to expand, and in 2005 Three Monkeys added independent designers from Toronto and New York. In 2006, to comply with market demands, a few well known global brands were added to the mix. Mike Casali adds, “Today, Three Monkeys is an eclectic blend of exclusive brand names and young up and coming designers."
Three Monkeys continues to seek out new talent and is proud of its selection of limited and unique items. It’s not to be missed.
