Jello Bar

Stepping into this retro-chic Montreal lounge featuring a live band, an enthusiastic older crowd, and speared olive lamps, one immediately notices that Jello Bar kicks lounging up a notch in the Plateau.

A retro-chic Montreal lounge with a live band, an enthusiastic older crowd, and speared olive lamps, Jello Bar kicks lounging up a notch in the Plateau.

The lava lamps lined up along the windows, the red lighting that sets the mood, and the live beats thumping away within this tiny place are nothing short of electrifying. Patrons ranging from 25 to 45 year olds fill the tiny dance floor, encouraged by the night’s funk cover band. While the groovy beats of Des’ree and Chaka Khan fill the air, the occasional patron dancing like Seinfeld’s “Elaine” exemplifies how carefree this place can be.

A separate room opens at midnight, revealing another bar, a pool table, and more comfortable seats for people who want a space away from the live music.

Jello Bar’s extensive martini selection (with over 50 varieties) gives patrons a real reason to shake it on the dance floor.

Even with the low $8 cover charge, your dineros will be flying out of your wallet from ordering way too many martinis at $10 a pop. Not to worry though …by then you’ll be too absorbed in trying to keep a safe distance from “twinkle-toes Elaine” while dancing to Barry White.
