Joeffer Caoc 2008 Collection
Abdi Olow
If being part of the highly applauded Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC) chosen group of seven top Canadian designers this season was any indicator of what Joeffer Caoc could do with a garment, then his latest showing solidified his place in Canada’s design stars.
Fusing simplicity with glamour, Caoc was able to reinterpret elegance this year at the L’Oreal Spring Fashion Shows in ways unseen since the Halston days. Citing Halston as his inspiration, Caoc showcased a Spring collection oozing with an understated sex appeal: silk shorts, one-shoulder dresses, and metallic sequin halter gowns. The collection was clean, simple, and elegant.
Dazzling the crowds at Toronto’s L’Oreal Fashion Week with his off-the-shoulder gowns, silk satin tunics, and metallic sequin cocktail dresses, Caoc’s recent showing was his best in years. Caoc’s colour choices for Spring were his usual ivories and blacks, but with a myriad of brights, such as fuchsia, orange, purples, yellows, and metallics. With this diverse colour palette, Caoc clearly understood the principle of accent and emphasis this season. Without a doubt, Caoc had one of the season’s most gorgeous wide leg pants.
Although Caoc showed his collection at L’Oreal Fashion Week on stick-thin models this year, it was clear that he had something in mind for every woman with his latest Spring ’08 pieces. His loose-fitting tunics and wide leg pants are perfect for any woman wishing to elongate the look of her body, while his caftans will work well for the woman whose figure is less than perfect.
Caoc, on his recent collection, remarked in an interview following the show: “Life moves too fast, and at the end of it all, it’s all about having a good time.”
