Wardrobe Rehab

New Year, new start … new wardrobe. Most people dread cleaning out their wardrobe and getting going on an early spring clean. Let’s face it, while we are in the mind set of new beginnings this really is the best time to get down and dirty with your wardrobe. It can actually be quite therapeutic! While some of us might be pretty good at keeping clothes to a minimum, some of us have serious problems packing away the designer “duds.” Lets be fair here. Shoes, bags, and jeans may make the cut as long as the wear and tear is kept to a reasonable limit, but as soon as those shoes get a hole in the sole, they’re a goner!
So how do you decide what to recycle and what to get rid of? Best indication would be to ask yourself: Have I worn this item in the last six months and is this something that I can
honestly
see myself wearing in the future? If the answers are no, then off to consignment it goes. Make a buck, spend a buck! Clothes are supposed to make you feel great, so if a garment isn’t fitting right or it’s uncomfortable (even if the tags are still attached) it’s time to let it go.
A cleaner wardrobe starts with good organization. Some people like to arrange by colour, others by category, or both. Leave jackets, dresses, skirts, scarves, and belts hanging and fold jeans, chunky sweaters, and workout gear, including hoodies. Line your shoes by season, all boots and closed toe shoes on one end and open toe shoes and sandals at the other end. If possible, try hanging all summer shoes (as they are smaller and lighter) on a door shoe storage unit. You’ll be amazed that with a little less-cluster you can actually see what your wardrobe has to offer. You may even find yourself falling in love all over again with something you forgot you even had!
