Mado
Jessie Lajoie
An artsy décor, dark velvet curtains, glitters, disco balls, drag queens, and a stage… this is what you’ve been missing. The crowd is calmly sipping on martinis and cocktails, waiting for the famous introduction song to be played. Mado finally enters the room in one of her fabulous designer dresses, carrying a microphone and a huge ring matching her dress.
If you haven’t been to Cabaret Mado, you haven’t seen Montreal. If you live in Montreal, you are missing something very big and very entertaining — something that makes a crowd line up as early as 9 p.m. for the countdown on New Year’s Eve!
Mado, a world-known, hard-working artist, is on stage at least three nights per week to make sure you have a good laugh. From serious, professional drag queen numbers to hilariously tacky shows, Mado is sure to offer an exciting monthly lineup of themes for you to enjoy. The hottest night to see Mado is on Tuesday, where she performs and then DJs the best music you will love, straight through to 3 a.m.
Behind the Mado personality, we have handsome and magnetic Luc Provost. Living in the heart of downtown Montreal, Luc is a very urban guy who loves to live his city to the fullest. Luc started on stage as Mado about 20 years ago, after his studies in theatre. After a short interview with Luc in his jaw-dropping dressing room, there wasn’t the slightest doubt in my mind that he is a very talented and smart artist. I would say Luc is a good business man; he knows where he is leading Mado and where to shine. He would like to eventually make a movie starring Mado. Chances are, with talent like his, it would be a great success.
Whether you understand French or not, you will enjoy the performances at Cabaret Mado, as they will capture and hold your attention all night long. The crowd is very mixed, which is the best kind. Here you have regulars, first-timers, tourists, couples, and groups — a lot of hot people, both gay and straight!
If you are looking for a great spot to hang out at in Montreal, Cabaret Mado is the place to be. You are guaranteed to experience a real “Montreal vibe,” seven nights a week!
