Current Swell
If your band is based in Victoria, it’s no surprise that you would sell your album at a local surf shop. The guys of Current Swell had already been jamming together for quite some time before releasing their debut album,
So I Say
, in 2005. Since then, the band has toured across Canada several times, as well as Australia and New Zealand, and has recorded its sophomore album
Trust Us Now
, which was released this June.
Taking cues from ska, surf, reggae, and blues, Current Swell’s sound is laidback, funky, and easy to groove to. The single off their latest album, “How Could They Trust Us Now,” features a new reggae sound comparable to Bedouin Soundclash, and it will have you swaying and repeating its hook all night. “Chesterman’s Valley,” off of the same album, is underlined by a more raw acoustic riff — clearly inspired by Jack Johnson’s brand of beach-bum rock.
Starting in July, Current Swell will be making its way across the country once again, playing shows almost every other night. Like a beer best served cold, Current Swell will be best taken in at an outdoor show — with a beer in hand! So this summer, round up all your guy friends and head down to the Current Swell show nearest you, because this will be a show they will surely enjoy too.
