: How long have you been designing and what got you started?
I.D
: I’ve been designing since I left textile college in 1990. I’ve always really liked making things as a kid.
Gloss
: Did you go to design school?
I.D
: I completed a four year Bachelor of Science degree in clothing studies at the Scottish College of Textiles in Galashiels, Scotland.
Gloss
: What was your inspiration for the fall collection?
I.D
: Fall always excites me as the colours and textures are so rich. The last couple collections have been inspired by the people around me; we have some amazing talented ladies in Vancouver who have their own individual styles and character.
Gloss
: What is your prep before diving into a collection?
I.D
: Creativity is a thing that is hard to define. Sometimes it's the colour of the sky that makes you dream of a dress you have to make or an angle on a piece of furniture that gets your mind working.
Gloss
: Do you work from muse or mood?
I.D
: I think you just have to be open to it and then interpret your thoughts in whatever medium that works for you.
Gloss
: What inspired the fabrics and shape of this dress?
I.D
: The Redia dress is named after Redia from Opportunist Studio. She is a brilliant stylist, whether it is hair or clothing. I just came up with this dress after a great conversation with her one day. I put pockets in the dress so that she could put her clips somewhere while she is working.
