Meanwhile,
Victoria Beckham
’s ad campaign for
Marc Jacobs
has been widely circulated, especially one particular image of Posh Spice’s legs extending from a white boutique bag. Next up for the soccer star’s wife is a T-shirt initiative by Jacobs and his business partner, Robert Duffy, to raise money for The Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group at New York University. Beckham told
Women’s Wear Daily
that “Since we have moved to California, I have realized how important it is to practice safe sun for myself and to keep the skin of my three boys well protected as well.” She continued, “Skin cancer is a huge problem, and I really wanted to help raise awareness by taking part in Marc and Robert's initiative.” The T-shirts, which are screen-printed with the celebrity’s image, retail for $35 (USD). Celebrities that have posed for the cause in the past include actresses Hilary Swank and Selma Blair.
Designer News
Moving on to designer news,
Karl Lagerfeld
(or Kaiser Karl, as his devotees call him) has requested that auto manufacturer
Volvo
remove an ad campaign featuring a small army of Karl look-alikes surrounding a C30 hatchback. According to
FashionWatch.com
, the car company thought it would be a cheeky idea. However, the Kaiser was thoroughly unimpressed, as his likeness was used without his permission. He stated, “They think I should be flattered, perhaps…. It's not the chicest car I am promoting.” Volvo’s campaign has since been pulled.
Besides the usual runway shows galore earlier this month at New York Fashion Week, a new collaboration was launched featuring
Tara Subkoff
of Imitation of Christ fame with sexy women’s brand
Bebe
.
FashionWeekDaily.com
reported that the capsule collection of 12 pieces evoked an “’80s feminist-meets-’40s Hollywood glam” with a mostly black, white, and red colour palette, with an additional, unique heart print. The collection consisted primarily of feminine pieces with whimsy and lots of ruffles, and was launched earlier this month at all Bebe stores in conjunction with international fashion weeks and, of course, Valentine’s Day. Prices ranged from $59 to $150 (USD), and pieces include tops, skirts, pants, dresses, a signature trench, and accessories, such as an adorable heart-shaped bag with a gold chain strap.
And the Award for Silliest Collaboration Goes To…
FashionWeekDaily.com
announced that luxury jeweller
Van Cleef & Arpels
has collaborated on two styles of limited-edition jeans for denim brand
Earnest Sewn
. The first is a $9,700 (USD) dark indigo stretch pair finished with a white mother-of-pearl and yellow gold Alhambra button, miniature Alhambra rivets, and a removable Alhambra chain reaching from the front right belt loop to the back right pocket. The second is a light grey pair with similar Alhambra motifs in black onyx and white gold, retailing for $11,300 (USD). Fewer than 10 pieces of each style are projected to be produced, bringing new meaning to the term limited edition (and, we’ll say, over the top).
