Cover Girls
Fall means the arrival of the fashion industry’s biggest magazine issues, the September issue. This year, look for Sienna Miller on the cover of
Vogue
’s largest issue ever, Gwen Stefani on
InStyle
, Gwyneth Paltrow on
W
, Gisele Bundchen on
Vanity Fair
, Kate Hudson on
Harper’s Bazaar
, and Ashley Olsen gracing
Marie Claire
. Two more controversial choices are Britney Spears for
Allure
and Lindsay Lohan for
Elle
.
Style Kudos
Fall also signals the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards, which are handed out every November. This year’s 10 nominees include Phillip Lim, Erin Fetherston, Rogan Gregory, and Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava. One winner will receive $200,000 and two runners-up will be awarded $50,000 each; all three will receive a mentorship and support from a top industry executive for one year. Past winners include Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler and Doo-Ri Chung.
Two other recent industry kudos include the announcement of the CFDA’s 30 newest members and
Vanity Fair
’s 68th Annual International Best-Dressed List, which will be released in its September issue.
The CFDA was founded in 1962 and votes its members in after reviewing applications. A complete list of new members can be found at the CFDA’s website,
CFDA.com
, and includes designers such as Phillip Lim, Tory Burch, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Rachel Roy, and Jessie Randall of Loeffler Randall.
Meanwhile, Vanity Fair’s 2007 list of the top 50 best-dressed people in the world, includes the Italian Princess Mafalda of Hesse, socialite Marjorie Gubelmann, former soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata, Lapo Elkann, heir to the Fiat fortune, and French fashion photographer Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele. Interestingly, the list oozes aristocracy and wealth, a fact that has been widely criticized for its politically incorrectness; however, the list does include Michelle Obama, wife of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama, and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Hmmm.
