Nada Yousif
I Heart NY
Bryanna Brown
Nada Yousif may be young, but at 23 she's already one of the newest breakout Canadian designers. Cast members of CTV's Degrassi: The Next Generation came out to support Yousif, who is an extra on the popular television show. Adam Ruggiero who plays Marco led the standing ovation that followed her collection.
As the show began, the runway was lit with Parisian lamps that made the audience feel as though they were really in the City of Love.
Yousif stayed true to her girly vision, with models strutting down the faux Champs-Elysées in delectable tea cup mini skirts in shiny purples, gold brocade and candy coloured stripes paired with simple turtle necks. I could see girls' eyes lighting up each time the coquettish outfits passed, each imagining how they would re-work this for a perfect first date outfit.
Coloured tights and heels brightened up demurely coloured outfits, adding enough edge to turn heads and not stomachs.
Yousif's colour combinations were fresh, fun and the perfect fantasy collection for Canadian girls wishing to transport themselves to another country.
While short skirts seemed quite reserved, the finale of the collection ended featured a re-worked maxi dress in purple and dark mocha, proving that one doesn't need to show skin to be sexy.
Modern 50s-inspired feminine chic
ABDI OLOW
Paris-inspired street lamps set the scene for Nada Yousif’s second showing at L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto. Nada Yousif’s new line, which appeals to a younger generation, tapped into the feminine mystique of the 50s. Highlighting fuller skirts and bold patterns this season, Nada Yousif added glam to a Fall collection that had a plethora of strapless and sleeveless creations, and a range of knee-length dresses in yellow, teal, rich purple, and gold jacquard embellishment prints. The designer’s pocketed mini dresses and skirts were also featured for this coming Fall season. Boldly printed skirts in gold and with splashes of colour were offset with monochromatic turtlenecks and simple accessories.
