Varvatos Glides Through Holt’s For Fashion Week
Holt Renfrew’s Press Conference

Champagne glasses and hors d’oeuvres went all around at Holt Renfrew’s Press Conference for Montreal’s 13th edition of Fashion Week. Special guest John Varvatos made an appearance to announce his new men’s collection at Holt’s, and gave a little booster speech to emerging designers.

Previously working for Ralph Lauren, the young Varvatos was given this simple advice before the left the company: “If you’re going to leave, you need to have something new to say.”

Indeed, he has been doing just that over the years, winning the prestigious “Perry Ellis Award” for menswear in 2000 as the most promising new talent in the industry.

During Montreal Fashion Week, Varvatos unveiled his new Spring/Summer ’08 collection at a private, invitation-only event. Guests at Holt’s were given a goodie bag containing a sample from Varvatos’ men’s skincare line and a gray polo shirt. Muse Will Be Frenching All The Way
Muse by Christian Chenail

Spring will be in full bloom next year at Muse. “French Kiss” was the theme, and so became this subdued but sexy collection. A myriad of flower prints in apple green and apricot colours were splashed across various silk summer dresses. Short bolero jackets, blackened rose prints on white skirts, loose tunics over peddle pushers, and high waist skirts and pants were the trends this year. His final series finished off with shoulder-bearing dresses, embroidered flowers on silver linen cocktails, A-line gowns, and a stunning, draped silver gown in subdued oval patterns.
