A Final Farewell
We leave off on a sad note as GLOSS gives a final farewell nod to Valentino. His last ready-to-wear collection was shown in Fall 2007 and January 23, 2008 marked his official retirement. The last Haute-Couture show was held in Paris at the Musée Rodin and supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Karen Mulder returned to honour this living legend.
The following day, Valentino was presented with “la médaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville de Paris”. Long time pals, Gian Carlo Gianetti and Karl Lagerfeld attended the reception.
Who is going to carry on the legacy? Alessandra Facchinetti, a 35 year old who previously worked at Gucci, has been chosen as Valentino’s successor. Her debut collection went out at Paris Fashion Week and, to everyone’s astonishment and surprise, the spirit was still very Valentino (just a bit more youthful).
The true test has yet to come. Time will only tell what the stars choose to wear to the Oscars next year. |
